Homelessness has many faces, and among the most heart-wrenching is the plight of families living in unstable housing conditions. These families often go unnoticed, making it challenging to count and track the number of people experiencing homelessness, especially the children.
According to the 2024 Point-In-Time Count, 347 families (443 adults and 685 children) are experiencing homelessness in Orange County. In reality, this number is even higher. Unstably housed families in Orange County often live in crowded rooms, motels, cars, or public spaces, exposing children to high levels of trauma and uncertainty.
The lack of affordable housing is the number one reason families fall into homelessness. When families can’t afford rent and basic necessities, their stability crumbles.
At Illumination Foundation, our mission is to disrupt the cycle of homelessness. We provide housing and healthcare services to those experiencing homelessness, creating spaces where families can heal, grow, and envision a new tomorrow.
Our five family emergency homes are more than shelters; they are sanctuaries of hope. Here, families find more than a roof over their heads—they find a community dedicated to their well-being and future success. Our Children and Families Program, rooted in compassion and trauma-informed care, unfolds right on site, addressing the unique needs of children and parents navigating homelessness.
