Advocacy

Build awareness that a homeless problem exists in Orange County and empower the community to work towards alleviating the problem.

Goals

  • Achieve community recognition that a problem exists
  • Reach consensus among homeless services providers and government on the severity of the problem
  • Ensure IF is acknowledged as an effective model for homeless organizations and as a regional leader in alleviating homelessness

Broad Plan of Action

  • Maintain strong presence in the community and Orange County government to foster collaboration - a core Illumination Foundation philosophy because it reduces duplication and costs of services for the homeless
  • Effectively use tools that can help us bring light to this issue:
    • Public Relations
    • Community outreach
    • Social networking
  • Create an emotional call-to-action for our community and government:
    • Encourage families to tell their story
    • Focus on outcomes and results
    • Utilize talent and expertise: filmmakers, artists
  • Engage corporate community to invest resources in addressing this crisis
  • Continually recruit new advocates and volunteers through community outreach to faith-based groups, schools, charity leagues and other organizations
